Critical Analysis of Ayatollah Javadi Amoli's Perspective on Theistic Science

[English]

Ayatollah Javadi argues that all sciences, if they are purely imaginary or illusory, cannot be classified as genuine sciences worthy of being labeled as religious or secular. However, if these sciences attain a level of certainty or high probability, they are religious sciences. Nevertheless, he underscores the importance of utilizing not only intellectual and empirical sources but also narrative sources in scientific pursuits. This perspective raises concerns as it appears to overlook the role and influence of religious foundations in ensuring the accuracy and realism of scientific theories. Moreover, the insistence on incorporating narrative sources may face resistance, particularly in a significant portion of sciences, especially empirical ones. This is because the primary objective of religion is human happiness, and it lacks a specific plan for this scientific domain. As a result, this sector is neither inherently religious nor non-religious. Consequently, attempts to religiousize this field through Ijtihad in religious texts encounter substantial challenges.
